This piece is sand cast from the ring I have worn daily for the past 4 years. Sand casting is an ancient technique where you make a two part mould packing sand tightly around a piece before removing it and creating a channel (sprue) to pour the molten silver through. While you can get quite precise castings of pieces using this method I prefer the chance element that comes into it when you dont quite align the two parts of the mould and put some loose sand into the hollow. I also wanted to see whether the engraved lines would pick up in the sand even if roughly sand cast.
Approx UK size K/ US 5.25.
One only.
Hand carved, cast and hallmarked in London in recycled silver.
